Greenpeace is making life for VW a little tough after Europe’s largest auto maker has been accused of overstating its environmental credentials and lobbying against deeper cuts to EU greenhouse gas emissions, after becoming the latest victim of one of Greenpeace’s publicity stunts.
The NGO has launched a global campaign accusing Volkswagen (VW) of failing to reduce petrol consumption in cars as quickly as other volume brands, despite promoting itself as a green company and claiming it wants to be “the most eco-friendly auto maker in the world”. In a report issued by Greenpeace also claims VW is spending millions of euros annually funding lobby groups tasked with opposing European Union proposals to increase its commitment to cut greenhouse gas emissions from 20 to 30 per cent by 2020.
